WOW! It has been 4 years from the last time I traveled with my family and not on my own.
We arrived to Cuba at 20:30 local time, to “Casa Armando” in Havana, We went straight to a Havana carnival party to get the Cuban vibe!
Day 1-2: We started our day late because of the jet leg, We walked around the city and stopped at the famous bar “El Floridita“ to drink a Daiquiri, it was great!
Then we walked towards “Havana Vieja” to visit all of the touristic places and stopped for lunch at a famous restaurant and bar called “La bodeguita del medio” We drank their famous Mojito that everyone comes for.
We didn’t do anything special at night we were too jet lagged.
The next morning we woke up and ate our usual breakfast: tropical fruits, mango juice, and eggs. Then we took an old school Taxi around Havana (40 CUC for 4 people), and stopped at the “Plaza de la Revolution” to see the famous picture of Che Gevara on the building.
In the end of the taxi drive, we stopped in “Hamel street” the art street ( Not recommend really touristic). Then we took a taxi to the “Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro".. it was a nice view not anything more than that. At night we went to a famous place called “1860” where we saw a live show of salsa and also danced there.
One thing that i will really remember from Havana is the Reggaeton music all over the streets, It makes the vibe in the streets so special!
Day 3-5 : We took a “taxi colectivo” to Viñales 20 CUC, There we found a really nice Casa that was recommended to us. We then took an organized trip where we rode on horses in nature and stopped to learn about cigar making and the coffee plantation. We got stuck because of thunderstorms who killed 4 people ( very scary!).
At night we went out to the “Casa de la musica” with people we met in the taxi that day.
The next day, we took a taxi collectivo to “Cayo Jutis” 20 CUC 2.5 hour drive with roads that were in poor condition, There we found a white sand beach and clear water, we stayed there all day.
At night we took a salsa lesson with Mikel a really nice Cuban Guy for only 7 CUC an hour. Then we practiced our moves at the Casa de la musica.
Next, we took a private taxi for the day (40 CUC), and drove to St.Martin cave and los Indios cave, They were not really impressive but nice to see, From there we went to see a panoramic view on viñales valley from the hotel "Los Jazmines"..
Day 6-7: We took a taxi from Viñales to Playa Larga 4.5 hours for 40 CUC per person, We found a new and nicely done hostel for only 25 CUC. We ordered a taxi to take us to the beach, The beach was pretty bad, there was a lot of seaweeds and dead palm trees.. At night there was a crazy storm with thunderstorms and we were stuck in the hostel.
Then, we took a private taxi for the whole day for 40 CUC, and drove towards “Playa Giron” on the way Oren (my brother) did a scuba diving class for 30 CUC! Then, we drove to Playa Giron where we found another “white sand Beach” it was not what I expected for a white beach since it was brown...and we stayed there the whole day.
Day 8-12 : We took a taxi from Playa Larga to Trinidad for 90 CUC for 4 people. We made a stop in the middle at Cienfougos for 2 hours, It was a really lovely city.
Then we arrived to Trinidad and walked toward the city, We stopped at “Cafe Don Pepe”. They had many types of coffee with liquor. At night, just a few minutes away from Plaza Mayor, My brother and I went to “Disco Ayala” a party inside of a cave, It was a really fun experience!
We woke up the next morning at Hostel “Lopez & Yamile” Everyone was very kind to us! All day we walked towards the historic and lovely city of Trinidad!
The next day we took an organized trip to “Parque Guanayara“ waterfalls 55 CUC each person then we stopped at a coffee plantation that was a cool experience.
At night we went to good restaurant “ La Redaccion Cuba” I recommend it.
Next, we took a private taxi all day 50 CUC, We went to see a viewpoint on the mountains, and then finally drove to the beach near Playa Ancon
The day after, we went to "Playa Ancon"a nice and calm sea, It was not what I expected from beach's here in Cuba.
Day 13-14 : We took a bus from Trinidad To Santiago de Cuba 12 hours drive.
One day in Santiago de Cuba, We did the tour that lonely planet suggested. There were not a lot of tourists here.
Day 15-18 : We took a taxi "particular" To Baracoa
We did a tour to “Yumuri river” and stopped at a place for cocoa making. We then took a boat on the river and stayed there, after this we went to the beach “Monglit".
The next day we took a tour to “Park National Humbolt” and hiked there for the day.
We drove from Baracoa to playa Santa Lucia 50 CUC each in a taxi "particular". We arrived there and it was really empty and isolated, I was disappointed by the beach there, it was not very nice..
Day 19: We went to "Playa Coco" 10km from Santa Lucia we found a white sand beach with almost clear water!!!!
While we were inside of the water 2 dolphins just jumped from the water, it was beautiful!!!!
Day 20: We traveled back to Havana from playa Santa Lucia.
Day 21: IT was my last day In Havana before I went to Mexico for a week!
I arrived in Mexico, literally back to civilization! Fine roads, cars, supermarkets and really tasty food! Guacamole all day long.
I Stayed in a really nice and fun hostel “hostel Che” in Tulum.
Day 22-25 : A day trip to “Chichen Itza" pyramids and "Hubiku Cenote"..
After that trip my cousin and I traveled to "Playa Del Carmen" - we also slept at "Hostel Che" and we went to see some more Cenotes like "Cenote Dos Ojos" and "The Great Cenote". Lastly, we went to "Akumal Beach" to see Turtles but didn't found any. :(
Overall, it was really cool to finally see the beautiful country of Cuba. I was surprised by the culture and the people, I absolutely loved my time there.
That's all for now!! hope you enjoyed!!
